Woods excited about his return, so are we Tiger….
There is only one golf story that needs to be discussed today and it’s the one that many fans of the sport from around the world have been waiting for – the return of Tiger Woods to competitive action.
The World No.1 is all set to make his comeback from injury at next week’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship in Arizona. This return comes after a long break from the game, with Woods’ last outing coming in the US Open last August.
Speaking about what will be a much publicised comeback; Woods has admitted that he does have some concerns about his fitness. He says that although he has practised a lot over the last few weeks it is a ‘different deal’ to go out and perform in a PGA Tour event.
However, on a more positive note, Woods revealed that he was ‘looking forward to getting back’ and ‘competing’ again against some of the best players in the world. It is something that he has clearly missed.
In terms of his ambitions for his first golf tournament in a while – of which he is defending Champion – Woods has unsurprisingly expressed his desire to go out there and win. He says that ‘nothing has changed’ about his attitude during his time off and that his winning mentality still very much exists.
It seems as though Woods’ fellow professionals are also excited that the best in the business is back in action. World No.11 Anthony Kim has said that ‘ticket sales will go right up’ on the back of his return and that overall it is ‘great for golf’.
Elsewhere, England’s Paul Casey has said that the sport ‘needs him’, simply because of the interest Woods generates. In terms of what he expects of Woods the player, well don’t be surprised to see him ‘better’ than ever before.
Personally, I can only echo these sentiments. It is great to see him back and I am excited to see how he will perform. One thing for sure is that of all the golf courses in the world, all eyes will be on Arizona next week.
