Short Game - Club Selection

This is dependent on many factors such as distance, elevation, lie, stance, what’s between the ball and the flag, etc.

Semi-rough - use a more lofted club as the ball will roll more on landing.

Heavy rough - use your most lofted clubs.  Hit more aggressively. Play a cut-up shot (see specialist shots) if required.

Which club to play for which shot

Remember:

It’s easier to chip with any club between 5 iron and PW.

It’s easier to pitch with any club between PW and LW.

This guideline offers the easiest and most reliable source for all key factors - strike, loft/trajectory, control on landing, control of the roll of the ball.
