Monty for Ryder Cup
Colin Montgomerie gave a good luck message to Great Britain & Ireland ahead of their bid to reclaim the PGA Cup in Scotland this week.
The Ryder Cup captain also had a special mention for GB&I's Jeremy Robinson, who was a team-mate of Monty's in the 1987 Walker Cup at Sunningdale.
GB&I, captained by Gary Alliss, are due to arrive in Scotland today (Monday) to begin preparations for the three day match against the United States which begin on Friday and take place at The Carrick on Loch Lomond.
The two sides, each featuring six rookies, will contest the Llandudno Trophy which was regained in dramatic circumstances by the US two years ago when Ryan Benzel won the last three holes against Paul Wesselingh to card a decisive half point for a 13 ½ - 12 ½ victory.
This year's match will have some familiar faces with three players from each side from the 2007 clash making it back into their respective teams. Wesselingh, making his sixth successive appearance for GB&I, is joined by Andrew Barnett and Jon Bevan while Benzel, Mike Small, and Lee Rinker were part of the victorious US team.
Alliss, who also skippered the side in 2007, is intent on recapturing the trophy that resided in his family home for decades and after a team-bonding session at The Belfry last month is pleased with how events are shaping up.
