St Mellion International Resort

Description

After a two-year, £20-million refurbishment, we are delighted to announce that St Mellion International Resort, in Cornwall, is now fully re-opened!

St Mellion International Resort is a surprisingly stylish and modern resort with a great golfing heritage. The multi million pound re-development includes a brand new 4 star standard, 80 bedroom hotel and extensive refurbishment of the existing clubhouse, and awaits the return of the European Tour from 2011 where it will play host the English Open.

Set in 450 acres of stunning Cornish countryside, St Mellion International Resort is the leading venue for golf and the perfect destination for both business and pleasure. With its two championship golf courses, including the UK’s first Jack Nicklaus designed ‘Signature Course’, one of only three in England; this famous West Country resort has hosted the Benson & Hedges International Open on six occasions and most recently the English Seniors Open, firmly securing St Mellion’s position as the finest venue for golf in the South West and as one of Europe’s premier resorts for both golf and leisure.

St Mellion is not simply about golf, whether visiting for a wedding, private function, conference, dinner in one of our restaurants, treating yourself in the brand new Elemis Spa or relaxing in our health club, St Mellion International Resort is the place to discover yourself.

The Nicklaus Course

Officially opened in the July of 1988, the Nicklaus golf course at St Mellion in Cornwall is regarded as one of the finest golf courses in Europe. Jack Nicklaus has designed many golf courses, however St Mellion’s Nicklaus Course in Cornwall was the first golf course he designed in the UK. Jack’s signature is all over this incredible course – high tees with good views of the fairways, water hazards and the requirement to place the ball in the right position in order to score well. Once opened Nicklaus gave the course his highest compliment:

“I knew it was going to be good, but not this good – its everything I had hoped for and more… St Mellion is potentially the finest golf course in Europe”.

At just over 7,000 yards from the tournament tees and 6,000 yards from the medal tees, the Nicklaus Course provides a truly outstanding test of golf for people of all abilities. Each hole from the 1st to the 18th provides its own unique test, with character and beauty, as a golfer whilst enjoying a round on the Nicklaus Course there really would not be a place you would rather be playing!

The Kernow Course (Formerly Old Course)

The “Kernow Course” at St Mellion is a championship golf course in its own right. It was opened in 1976 and at 6,000 yards, has many holes which will test the very best golfer. The long par 4 third will require 2 accurate shots to reach the green in regulation where bunkers are ideally placed to catch both your tee shot and approach.

The twelfth is the most picturesque of the par three’s with the lake being quite intimidating to the nervous player – however, to hit the green is most satisfying. The Kernow Course finishes with the fantastic par 4 eighteenth which provides a fitting end to a memorable 18 holes.

The Kernow Course is a delightful course with wonderful scenery, and extremely popular with both members and visitors of all handicaps a like.
