The course has been lengthened for the 2008 Open Championship and will play at 7,173 yards and a par of 70. The Open comes to Royal Birkdale for the ninth time this July, and is 155 yards longer than 1998 when the course lasted hosted the Open. There are new mounds, tighter bunkering and new playing lines - all of this will reward better shotmaking and should make for interesting spectating.
